Around this time last year, “bookshelf wealth” was the trend taking over our spaces—or, more specifically, our shelves. Proponents argued that you don’t need a Royère or an Eameschair to signal taste (though it certainly can’t hurt). All you have to do is fill, curate, and style a bookshelf and let the titles do the talking.
Lucky for all of us, beautiful bookshelves will never go out of fashion. Likewise, “bookshelf wealth” has shown no signs of slowing down. So how do you capitalize on the moment? Design experts weigh in.
Intentional But Not Cluttered
A well-curated bookshelf has a few simple ingredients: pieces that reflect the homeowner, organization that makes sense, and a structure that suits the space.
But, when it comes to a great bookshelf, there are a few subtle rules. For example, they shouldn’t be too cluttered and must always be deeply curated. When in doubt, remember less is often more. “Our approach is all about thoughtful composition,” says Erin Hackett Nordholt of Hackett House Studio. “We’re leaning into bookcases that feel minimal, curated, and largely rooted in vintage pieces.”
