Rich Wood and Green Bring Midcentury Style

Judy Nolin loves the color green and the clean lines of midcentury modern style. Her partner, Stephen Barrett, favors rich woods. So when the couple moved into a 1990s Vermont Colonial that Barrett’s son purchased as an investment property, they worked with designers Britt Mee and Rachelle Lazzaro to update the aging kitchen in a way that combined their preferences.

The design team removed the former basic honey oak cabinets and replaced them with custom locally made cherry cabinets that reflect Barrett’s taste. Slab fronts on the cabinets satisfy Nolin’s desire for a clean midcentury modern look. The bland white square tile backsplash gave way to deep green tile that honors her favorite color and complements the wood tones. A new coffee station gives Barrett his requested area for one of his favorite beverages. A larger island, a workstation sink and upgraded appliances enhance function for everyone.
