The Seattle Sounders announced this week that the club is launching a relief effort to help the local community amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

The ‘Seattle Sounders FC Relief Fund’ will target the individuals, nonprofits and small businesses in the neighborhoods surrounding CenturyLink Field -- the club’s home arena -- that have been “adversely impacted” by the postponement of the 2020 MLS season.

“As our world faces new unprecedented challenges presented by COVID-19, it’s our responsibility to step up and give back to the community in a meaningful way,” Sounders majority owner Adrian Hanauer said in a news release. “Through the Sounders FC Relief Fund, we aim to provide direct support to those who need it most. My mother and I are proud to be able to begin the funding for this incredibly vital project.”

The fund will support a wide range of needs, including rent assistance for businesses to keep their doors open. Monetary packages will also assist shift workers and service providers in and around CenturyLink Field, as well as the local organizations that support and serve fans on matchdays.
