Often, the very best design moments come from a marriage with the fashion world. Case in point, the latest textile and wallpaper collection from Sanderson, a collaboration with British couturier Giles Deacon.

Deacon’s fashion career spans decades and includes posts at Bottega Veneta and Gucci, not to mention garments in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. His work, which combines a feeling of classic elegance and gravitas with a self-aware sense of humor, has been worn by celebrities like Cate Blanchett and Sarah Jessica Parker. More recently, Deacon designed a look for Beyoncé’s record-breaking Renaissance World Tour, plus numerous pieces for his life partner, Game of Thrones alum Gwendoline Christie.

While Deacon is known first and foremost as a fashion designer, he also has a background in illustration, a skill he drew upon for his work with Sanderson. The resulting patterns nod to both collaborators’ history: The Aperignon stripe motifs, for example, are a persistent theme in Deacon’s work, while Lakeland Paradis is a revival of an archival floral. Others combine elements of the creative duo, like Wilsford, a trompe-l’oeil illustration inspired by wallpapers from Sanderson’s long history, here reimagined by Deacon in cascading, pastel-hued bows.
